Starting soon… Connect Group
Connect Group is a place to study the Bible with others. It is an opportunity to build community with each other as we grow in our faith with Christ. Our new Connect Group will start this Wednesday, 20th January 2021, and will usually meet fortnightly after that up to Easter. We will begin meeting online via Zoom, but move to in-person when regulations allow, and it is safe to do so.

Call to Worship – Psalm 113:1-3

Praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord, you his servants;
praise the name of the Lord.

Let the name of the Lord be praised,
both now and forevermore.

From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
the name of the Lord is to be praised.

Hymn 500 – God of Grace, Amazing Wonder

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father,
The earth belongs to you and everything in it,
the world and all its inhabitants were made by you.
All our lives we have been surrounded
by the blessings of your goodness.
Today we praise and worship you,
and join with whole fellowship of believers
in heaven and on earth
in exalting you as God and King.

Merciful God,
you are the fount of every blessing,
and you know the thoughts of our heart.
Lord God, we confess that
we have sinned against you,
and done evil in your sight.
Wash us from the stains of our past sins,
and give us grace and power
to put away all hurtful things;
so that, being delivered from the bondage of sin,
we may bring forth worthy fruits of repentance.

Almighty God,
your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ
is the light of the world.
Help us to shine with the radiance of his glory,
so that he may be known,
worshipped, and obeyed
to the ends of the earth. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

Children’s Story – The Good Samaritan

Children’s Praise – If we Trust

Reading Luke 10:25-37

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. ‘Teacher,’ he asked, ‘what must I do to inherit eternal life?’

26 ‘What is written in the Law?’ he replied. ‘How do you read it?’

27 He answered, ‘“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind”; and, “Love your neighbour as yourself.”’

28 ‘You have answered correctly,’ Jesus replied. ‘Do this and you will live.’

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, ‘And who is my neighbour?’

30 In reply Jesus said: ‘A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half-dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he travelled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. “Look after him,” he said, “and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.”

36 ‘Which of these three do you think was a neighbour to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?’

37 The expert in the law replied, ‘The one who had mercy on him.’

Jesus told him, ‘Go and do likewise.’

Hymn 509 – Love Divine, all loves excelling

Final Prayer

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ,
the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with us all, evermore.

Amen
